LUIGO NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!
Name: Luigo Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd/heeler mix
Best Guess for Age: 7 months as of December 2025 SEX: Male
Estimated Weight (he is still growing): 31 pounds as of 10/14/2025
Gets Along With: Luigo gets along well with other dogs and has lived with kids in his foster home! We haven't seen him with cats but are happy to discuss integration techniques with potential adopters.
Currently Living at: DC area foster home.
Special Adoption Considerations:
Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think this pup would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure they can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.
Luigo is Looking For: Hiya! I'm Luigo! You can watch a video of my rescue in Puerto Rico here: https://youtube.com/shorts/uT4qlY7lLQw?feature=share.
I'm looking for my forever family! I can't wait to explore my new neighborhood on lots of walks, and I'd really like to make a bunch of doggie friends along the way. But most of all I want to know I'm safe and loved, where I belong. I have so many kisses and so much love and loyalty to give in return. What do you say? Do I get to go home with you?
What My Foster Says About Me: Luigo is a great mix of playful energy and calm, snuggly quiet. He loves to play fetch with a tennis ball and chew on his squeaky toys but he also loves to cuddle up in your lap and take a snooze. He is around 2 young kids (ages 4 and 6) who are loud and rambunctious. He bonded to me very quickly after we met and has been a sweet lovebug when it’s time for rest. He’s doing GREAT in his crate, including overnight and really well with potty training. He has learned a lot from his big brother dog, like walking well ojn leash. He learned the sit command quickly We think he will be a great dog for a family (and maybe one that already has a younger dog with energy to play) and seems very eager to learn new things and make new friends. He is so sweet and deserves to be with someone who can reciprocate all the love he so generously gives.
Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
