My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sammy – A Frosted Faced Senior Being Loved by the crew at All Tuckered Out Boarding and Ready for Her Forever Home!

At 11½ years old, Sammy is a true survivor and a shining example of second chances. When she arrived at All Tuckered Out, she was in heartbreaking condition. Emaciated at just 30 pounds, anemic, filthy, and suffering from colitis, it was clear she had never known the comfort of a home. She had likely lived her entire life outdoors.

But Sammy’s story is one of incredible transformation. With lots of love, care, and proper nutrition, she now weighs a healthy 48 pounds and is thriving. Today, she’s fit as a fiddle—walking on a treadmill twice a day for an hour, her bloodwork looks great, and she’s showing no signs of arthritis. Her vet believes she could have another three to five wonderful years ahead, especially with continued care and attention to her physical health.

Sammy is sweet, gentle, and wonderful with people of all ages, including children. While she truly loves human companionship, she finds the presence of other dogs and cats stressful. Because of this, she’s looking for a calm, pet-free home where she can be your one and only.

She enjoys spending time outside in the yard, cuddling her favorite puppy and bunny stuffies, playing ball, and soaking up all the belly rubs and affection you can give. She’s treadmill trained, loves her daily walks, and is as spry and playful as ever.

Her care routine is simple and effective. A high-quality kibble, joint support, and daily probiotics keep her feeling great.

We love Sammy dearly at All Tuckered Out, but we know that what she needs most is a peaceful, loving home where she can finally relax and enjoy her golden years without the stress of other animals.

If you think you might be the person Sammy’s been waiting for, she’s ready to fill your life with love, loyalty, and endless tail wags.

Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping.

In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process.

If you are interested in adopting or would like additional information, please email us at adopt@safehavendogsIL.org to request an application.

Keep in mind that the breed and size listed in each dog's biography are our best educated guesses and are not guaranteed.

Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.

More about this rescue

We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.

The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.

Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.

While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.

We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
