Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Sandy – Your Future Shadow and Snuggle Buddy!
Sandy is a beautiful retriever mix, possibly with hints of Shar Pei or Black Mouth Cur, and she’s on the lookout for her forever family. She arrived at the shelter with three other dogs after her previous owner became incarcerated, but that hasn’t stopped her from learning to love and trust again.
A little shy at first, Sandy quickly warms up and becomes an affectionate, loyal companion. She’s the #1 fan of belly rubs and a total sucker for snuggles! With consistency, patience, and kindness, she has blossomed into a playful pup with a silly streak that will steal your heart.
Smart and eager to please, Sandy already knows basic commands like “sit,” “leave it,” “touch,” and “come.” She is both crate trained and housebroken, making her a wonderful housemate. She enjoys romping around with other dogs and even hops on the treadmill to burn off her zoomies—yes, really!
Sandy is looking for a home that will continue to help her build confidence and show her that the world is a safe and loving place. In return, she’ll be your faithful shadow, your cuddle buddy, and your biggest fan.
If you're ready to meet a gentle, goofy girl with a heart full of love, Sandy is ready to meet you!

More about this rescue
We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.
The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.
Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.
While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.
We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
