My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi… hi, over here!
Yeah, you. The one who stopped.

I’m Bella, black and white, 2.5 years old, and HSSM’s very own PIN UP GIRL. See my bow and pearls? When I wear them, I know I look cute. I get so excited I zoom around the yard just to show off, like a little runway that only I can see.

Right now, though, I’m sitting quietly in my kennel, watching you. Tail thumping. Head tilted. Hoping this might be the moment.

I’ve been here six months. That’s a long time to watch people walk by, but I’ve tried to stay hopeful. I still perk up when I see my favorite humans, especially the one who plays with me every day and helps me practice my manners. I’m learning how to be a proper lady. I’ll sit for a treat. I’ll wait patiently when the door opens. No rushing out. I want to do things right.

When I get out to play, I’m shy at first. I check things out, read the room. Then I warm up, and suddenly I’m romping with the other dogs like I’ve known them forever. If you have a dog at home, bring them to meet me. I’d really like that.

If you come closer, I’ll lean into you. I love hugs and snuggles, I’m gentle, sweet, and very good at carefully destuffing toys piece by piece. Precision matters. I am also good with CATS & am a water dog!

There is one thing I need to tell you honestly. I’m heartworm positive, but my treatment is fully sponsored at our Wellness Clinic. That part is already taken care of. Now we can get to the good stuff!

I’m the shelter’s longest resident now. I’ve worn that title quietly, but I don’t want it anymore. I’m ready for a new role.

I don’t want to be the dog you felt sorry for.
I want to be the leading lady in your home!

If you’re looking at me right now, standing here, maybe this is it. Maybe you’re who I’ve been waiting for. Come ask to meet me today!

Additional adoption info

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
