Hi, I’m Cheddar!
I’m a 6-year-old Shepherd/Retriever mix with a big heart, a loyal spirit, and a whole lot of love to give the right person. I’m looking for a calm, single-adult home where I can be your one and only—no other pets, please. I like having my person all to myself!

I’m a smart guy, I bond deeply, and once I trust you, I’m the most devoted companion you’ll ever meet. I love routine, clear communication, and someone who understands dogs. I’ve had some challenging moments in my past, including a known bite history, so I need an adopter with solid dog experience who can help me feel safe and supported.

Because of my history, I should be crated or safely managed when visitors come over. It helps me feel secure and prevents stressful situations for everyone. With the right structure, I relax, thrive, and show all my goofy, affectionate sides.

If you’re someone who enjoys a loyal shadow, appreciates a dog with quirks and character, and can offer me a stable, low-traffic home, I’d love to meet you. I promise—once I’m yours, I’m yours forever.

Submit Application

Whether you're interested in a specific pet or not, fill out our application online at houstonpetsalive.org.

2.
Meet the Pet

Once your application is approved, a meet and greet will be set up between you and your pet of interest.

3.
Sign Adoption Contract

If the meet and greet goes well and your adoption application is approved, you will sign the adoption contract.

4.
Pay Fee

Once the adoption contract is signed, you will pay the adoption fee.

5.
Take the Pet Home

Bring your new best friend home! Remember that it will take some time for him/her to adjust to their new environment.
