My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ANDREW IS GROWING UP AT SHELTER HOPE!

Andrew Pawfield (AKA Andrew Garfield) didn’t start life with much certainty. He came to us from an accidental litter, passed from one caring family to another by people who wanted to protect him from ending up in an overcrowded city shelter.

Shelter Hope agreed to take him in, hoping to give him the best possible chance at finding him a forever family. He was just 3 months old then.

Now, he’s 6 months old…

Some puppies fly out the door the moment they arrive. But little Andrew keeps getting passed by.

Andrew is a charming 14.5 lb energetic Chihuahua mix who loves to explore, run, and play, especially with other dogs. Fun-loving and sweet, he’s wonderful with kids and adores toys and chewy treats that keep him happily entertained. He enjoys snuggling in laps and loves following his humans around the house. When it’s time to relax, his foster says Andrew settles down easily on his own. He’s a big fan of outdoor time but has no trouble heading back inside for cuddles. Very affectionate and people-oriented, Andrew always wants to be right next to his humans.

Andrew deserves a loving home. This sweet pup is fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to find his forever family!

OPERATING BY APPOINTMENT ONLY!

Dogs are only brought into the shop if an application to meet the dog is approved and an appointment is made.

More about our process:

STEP 1: APPLICATION
If you're interested in adopting, please fill out a rescue questionnaire. Please be thorough in your answers. We do not place dogs on a first come first serve basis, but rather to the home best suited for them.

Be ready to adopt, as adoptions can happen quickly. Only apply for dogs that every family member agrees on, and wait to submit your application until after your vacation.

STEP 2: PHONE INTERVIEW
If your application is approved, our rescue counselor will contact you for a phone interview.

Please be patient, as this process may take several days. Due to the high volume of applications, especially for popular dogs, not all applicants will be contacted. Moreover, we often interview multiple candidates before selecting the best match and scheduling an adoption appointment.

STEP 3: ADOPTION APPOINTMENT
The appointment is a meet-and-greet at our shop at the Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks. If you choose to adopt, the process is completed with an adoption fee and a signed contract.

Adoptions include:
- 10% off training at Zoom Room Thousand Oaks
- A free day at doggy daycare at Barks N' Rec
- A free grooming at Indiana Bones
- A free check-up with Slaton Veterinary Hospital
- A free 30 minute visit from Valley Pet Sitting
- A free collar, tag, harness & leash
As well as all the vaccines they've had thus far, the microchip, and the spay/neuter.

And most importantly, the lasting reward of saving a life and welcoming a new member into your family!

More about this shelter

Since opening in 2011, Shelter Hope Pet Shop has rescued and re-homed over 16,000 animals.

Located at the Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks, Shelter Hope is a nonprofit, community-powered dog rescue dedicated to making a lasting impact on the lives of dogs in need, their adopters, and overcrowded shelters. We facilitate adoptions, welcome volunteers, and are committed to empowering the community through education and awareness.

Shelter Hope rescues strays and surrenders from as nearby as Ventura County and the LA area to as far as Bakersfield, where the community faces a severe animal overpopulation crisis. Moreover, we take in dogs of all ages from overcrowded no-kill and high-kill shelters, as well as from other urgent situations where dogs are at risk. These include often overlooked seniors and those with medical challenges.

While visiting local shelters is always encouraged, Shelter Hope provides a family-friendly, welcoming, retail-style environment where visitors can comfortably meet and connect with rescue dogs. Our thoughtful and thorough adoption process helps ensure each dog is placed in a stable, forever home, reducing the likelihood of them re-entering the shelter system.

Shelter Hope works tirelessly to give dogs in need a real second chance while easing pressure on overcrowded shelters.

Be part of the solution: adopt, don't shop.
