My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

With her big ol’ head, sleek build, and eyes that can look a little suspicious of strangers, Spritz might seem intimidating at first glance—but don’t be fooled. All she needs is a moment to give you a sniff and decide you’re a friend. Once you pass the test, her whole demeanor melts: her eyes soften, her body relaxes, and out comes the wiggliest butt you’ve ever seen. Fair warning—once that tail gets going, it’s basically a weapon.

We don’t know what Spritz experienced before coming into rescue that made her nervous around new people, but she has made incredible progress over the past few months. With continued socialization, she’s become downright friendly and has shown just how loving she truly is.

Spritz loves attention. Her signature move is leaning her entire body weight into you while you pet her, followed by a dramatic flop onto the floor for belly rubs. If she decides you’ve stopped too soon, she’ll politely (and persistently) poke you with her nose to remind you that she’s still there and would like more pets—or playtime.

When it comes to other dogs, Spritz does best with medium to large canine companions. She adores play in all forms: toys, chase, wrestling—you name it. She’s always ready to play, anywhere and anytime. Because she sometimes forgets how big she is, she’d do best with a dog close to her size. Her play style is mildly dominant, so she wouldn’t be a good match for a very dominant dog.

Spritz is curious about cats and is mostly gentle with them, but she does like to chase when they move quickly. A home with cats would require some training and supervision, but we believe peaceful coexistence is possible with time and patience.

The practical stuff? Spritz has it down. She’s fully potty-trained, crate-trained, knows her basic manners, and has been trusted to free roam in her foster home without any issues.

Spritz would thrive in a home looking for a fun-loving, hilariously goofy girl—and one willing to offer a little patience as she settles into a new environment. In return, her adopters will gain an incredibly loyal, affectionate, and devoted companion who will love them with her whole heart.

More about this shelter

We are a non-profit organization out of Monticello, IA specializing in the care for dogs and cats that need us. Our care does not stay local, as we take transports from all over the United States, and adopt all over as well!

Our mission's primary focus is to help reduce the homeless pet population by finding homes for spayed/neutered pets, and helping educate WHY this process is so important, and the proper way to care for pets!
