My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Freedom (A1215538) – A Distinguished Senior with Endless Love to Share

Looking for a companion who knows the joy of a sunbeam, the comfort of a warm lap, and the sweetness of quiet company? Meet Freedom, an 11-year-old gentleman with a striking white coat adorned with bold black patches. He’s as handsome as they come—and his heart is just as beautiful.

When you first bring Freedom home, he might be shy and then talkative, but as he settles in, his meows are softer, turning into little greetings or reminders that he’s nearby. It’s impossibly cute—and you’ll find yourself listening for those gentle sounds.

At night, Freedom is the perfect bedmate: he’ll quietly park himself nearby, unobtrusive and content just to share the space. During the day, he’s a champion cuddler, with a talent for sprawling across your lap as if it were designed just for him. And while he’s a mellow senior, don’t be fooled—he still enjoys a good play session, showing off a silly side that will make you laugh.

Recently, Freedom had a health screening at the vet and full dental work and is now feeling better than ever, ready to settle into a forever home where he can be spoiled properly. He may need a little time in a quiet “safe room” at first, but once he feels secure, his affectionate, easygoing personality shines through.

Why adopt a senior cat like Freedom?

You’ll know exactly who you’re welcoming—personality, quirks, and all.

Seniors are calm, low-maintenance, and deeply grateful for love.

You’ll be giving a wonderful cat a safe, peaceful retirement—and gaining a loyal companion who knows how to love in return.

If you’re ready to open your home and your heart to a wise, gentle friend, Freedom is waiting to meet you.

More about this shelter

The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department’s mission is to protect and serve the pets and people of Albuquerque by providing Caregiving, Awareness, Resources, Enforcement and Service excellence.

AWD is always in need of foster homes for our pets who need time to grow, recovery from illness or injury or in need of a break from the shelter. Foster homes increase our capacity to provide services to homeless pets in our community. If you would like to donate toys, towels and milk-bones are always in need. Volunteer opportunities are also available at our shelters.
