My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🌸 Meet Kia – A Sweet Senior Searching for Love 🌸

Kia’s journey has been full of heartbreak, but she hasn’t let it take away her gentle spirit. 💔 This 12-year-old Formosan Mountain Dog mix came into rescue as a pregnant senior. She gave birth to her pups, but tragically, they all passed within 24 hours. Her previous owner had clearly only used her for backyard breeding, and it took her some time to learn that people could be kind.

Despite all she’s endured, Kia has blossomed into a very sweet old gal who deserves nothing more than a cozy, loving home to call her own. She’s currently in a foster home, where she’s shown that she gets along well with other dogs — as long as they aren’t reactive or aggressive toward her. She’s also kid-friendly (though we’d prefer a home with older children for her comfort) and does just fine with cats. 🐾

Kia is heartworm positive and currently undergoing treatment. She is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and will be spayed prior to adoption.

One of Kia’s sweetest quirks is that she loves to carry around her stuffed toys and snuggle them — they bring her so much comfort, and it’s heart-melting to see. 🧸💕

After a lifetime of being used and overlooked, Kia deserves to spend her golden years knowing what real love feels like. Could you be the one to give her the soft landing she’s been waiting for?

More about this rescue

Journey's Legacy is a small rescue in Cleveland, TN. We save dogs from the local shelter, off the streets, and occasionally owner surrenders if there is room or an urgent need. We have dogs in foster homes, boarding facilities, and the ranch. We specialize in medium to large breed dogs. We are working hard to get laws to change to require pet owners to spay and neuter their pets to stop the overpopulation of animals.
