My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.

Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website.

We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run.

We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have.

Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.

General Notes | Kona is eager to embark on new trails, sniff out exciting scents, and bring a lifetime of joyful exploration and loving companionship, sweet as her namesake, to your home. Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.

Personality | Kona is a very sweet, shy, happy girl! She can be nervous when meeting new people but with some patience she will start to warm up quickly.  She has a very goofy side as well and loves to play.  She loves chew toys and tennis balls!  She will need a yard to explore/play in as at the present time she will not go to the bathroom on walks.  She is housetrained but prefers the yard.

Story | Kona came from an oops litter in Oklahoma when dad dug into the yard and bred with mom. They've been in a home with several other dogs their whole lives. Kona did not have the greatest start for socialization but she has been working hard on becoming braver and adjusting to the world. She is now well-acclimated to home life and learning that strangers can quickly become friends.

Other Dogs | Kona loves other dogs! She has existed well in a whole pack and one on one. She would also be fine as an only dog

Cats | Kona has NOT been cat tested yet, but her current trainer believes she would be fine with a feline friend.  She does go after squirrels and rabbits with enthusiasm.

Children | Kona would do best in a home with kids that are over the age of 7. She is currently living with two school-aged children and loves to play with them and hang around. She can get a little barky with new vistors so a home with a lot of kids (or others) coming and going a lot may not be a great fit.

Training | Kona has had the benefit of staying with one of amazing training partners. She is learning basic obedience, off-leash skills and continued socialization with humans and the world! Kona's new family will be able to continue work with Cristina (her amazing trainer) and Mile High will cover three additional training sessions to get Kona and her new family off on the right foot. Cristina will also provide training to her new family so they know all her new skills and tools! This is an amazing gift towards Kona's continued success.

Leash | Walks very well on leash.  She does want to go after critters (and the occasional plastic bag)!  At the present time she will not go to the bathroom while on walks.

Activity Level | Moderate. Kona is pretty calm for a dog her age. She saves her zoomies for outside with her dog friends. She is usually calm and easy-going in the house but will occasionally bark when there are unexpected noises.

Health Notes | No health concerns!  She will sometimes get a little carsick.

Thank you! |

Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).

Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process.

Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption.

We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!

We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
