My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello out there!! My name is WINSTON and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Aussie Shepherd mix (best guess, really!)

  • Age: approx. 1.5 years

  • Gender: Male

  • Weight: 45 lbs

  • Current Location: TEXAS

RESCUE STORY - Not much is known about my life before, but one day I just wandered up to a woman's house and made myself at home. They contacted County Roads Rescue, and the rest is history! My rescuers assumed I had an owner at one point, because I was such a well behaved boy! They searched for my owners, but couldn't find them and nobody appeared to be looking for me. Can you believe it? How could nobody be missin' a cutie patootie like me? I am SUCH a good boy and am very ready to find my forever home; one where I will get the love and care I am so deserving of.

TEMPERAMENT - I am described as playful, friendly, and very entertaining. I am gentle with kids and people and I love to be around other animals. I've heard that I'm the "best of both worlds" when it comes to manners and energy level. I'm shockingly well behaved considering my lack of a stable home environment during my adolescent years. I am an active boy who will thrive in an home where we go on lots of adventures, walkies, hikes, etc. In true Aussie Shepherd fashion, I am smart, loyal, and need to be mentally and physically tuckered out daily in order to be content and happy.  I am a social butterfly and see everyone as a friend (cats, dogs, humans of all ages... you name it, I love it!)

ENERGY LEVEL - Medium/High - I am a young Australian Shepherd boi who can be energetic and playful. Once my brain and body are sufficiently exercised, I'm a sweet, cuddly boy who enjoys affection and snuggles. I absolutely LOVE to play with other dogs, but when I'm not in play mode, I'm pretty calm.

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Yup! Here is a video of me meeting some kiddos, I'm just the happiest, sweetest boy!

    • as with ALL dogs, I should always be supervised around children and I need to have my space respected. It's important to remember I am a rescue pup with minimal training, so I may play nip or bounce/jump up on people (including children!)

  • Dogs – Yup! Check out my video, I am the ultimate playmate!

  • Cats – Yes - video coming soon.

PREY DRIVE - Low, however I don't know how I'll react to squirrels/rabbits etc. My adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, if they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – I do pretty well on a slip leash but would love an adopter who is willing to continue working with me on my leash skills.

  • Crate trained -  Yes! Growing up in a kennel/shelter environment, my kennel is my safe space. There may be an adjustment period when I go to my new home, but with proper use, the crate can be my safe space :)

  • House trained – Work in progress! I am very clean inside my crate/kennel space, so my rescuers think I'll pick up housetraining pretty quick. I'm sure with frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement in my new home, I'll catch on quickly!

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I have been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

  • I have tested negative for heartworm.

  • I will be tested for distemper and parvo before travelling (although I've been vaccinated for both!)

  • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $840.00, including applicable taxes ($750.00 CAD + 5% GST and 7% PST), which includes my ground transport to Edmonds, Washington. My adopter needs to be willing to drive to Edmonds, Washington to pick me up! :)
