My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Boon (although in Korea my name is “SeungHoon”) and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Jindo Mix

  • Age: 3 years (est. birth: Jan. 2022)

  • Gender: N. Male

  • Weight: 35 lbs (16 kg)

  • Height: 67 cm (paws to top of my head)

  • Length: 73 cm (head to butt)

  • Current Location: S. KOREA

RESCUE STORY – I was found on the streets of Korea in March 2022, along with my four furry siblings. Thankfully, a rescue team found us in time and brought us to safety, saving us from a high kill shelter. Since then, all of my siblings have found their forever homes—but I’m still waiting patiently for my turn. I know my special someone is out there, and I can't wait to meet them.

TEMPERAMENT – I’m a happy, bubbly and affectionate dog once I'm comfortable but may be a "slow burn" while I adjust. I promise my true temperament will be worth the wait and going at my pace will absolutely pay off! I have spent my entire life living with other dogs, so I’m used to a busy, social environment. If I become a solo dog in a home or when put in new environments, I might seem a bit more subdued or quiet at first (video). Don't worry though, I love people, and once I’ve had some time to decompress and adjust to my new surroundings, my cheerful, bubbly personality will shine through again. Also, I’m very food-motivated! A few tasty treats can really help break the ice and speed up the bonding process. With a little love (and some snacks), I’ll be your best friend before you know it.

I’m comfortable with elevators and car rides, but I haven’t used stairs yet. I love sniffing around and exploring new environments, and I might try to mark new places a few times. I am responsive to a firm “No” and am keen to learn how to be the best behaved boy. Having lived in a shelter environment for the majority of my life, I am not used to typical indoor sounds, (like doors closing, TV's, vacuums etc.) so it might take me a little time to get used to all the new noises. But with patience and love, I’ll adjust and feel right at home. I love calm pets from humans (video) and dream of the day I get to have a family of my own who loves me.

ENERGY LEVEL - Medium to High – I tend to be more active and playful around familiar people while staying more reserved and calm in new environments. So once I get comfy with you, my true energetic side will shine through and I'll be ready for playtime and adventures! Once I've been sufficiently mentally and physically exercised, I'll be happy to snooze and chill.

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown. I haven't had much exposure to young children since I’ve spent most of my life in a shelter. But whenever I meet kids outside on walks, I get pretty happy and curious—I often go up to say hi and gently greet them. I can be a timid boy when adjusting to a new environment, so preferably no young children in my forever home at the beginning.

  • Dogs – Yes! I’m very good and playful when living with many dog friends. I enjoy being social and having fun! But I also know how to be gentle and respectful with smaller or more timid dogs who need space and time to say hello. I can match the energy of playful pups, but I’m also patient with those who need a slower introduction. I would do well in a home with another calm, confident dog who can help show me the ropes of this whole Canadian life!

  • Cats – Unknown.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around cats/squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviors, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Work in process. The first step is not always easy for me because I don’t have much experience wearing walking gear, and sometimes it makes me freeze. But after a few moments, I usually start walking and enjoy some sniffs (video). It would really help me if I could walk regularly on the same routes to get used to my gear and feel more confident. Also, when I’m on a leash, I tend to freeze a little if I meet a stranger (particularly males). Interestingly, I’m usually comfortable with men when I’m freely roaming off-leash, but the leash seems to make me a bit more cautious. I am looking for an adopter who will patiently work with me on my leash skills and who will help me learn to be confident while advocating for my space as I get comfortable.

  • House trained – Work in progress. Having lived in a shelter environment for a long time, I haven't had the 1-on-1 attention needed to become "house trained". Please expect an adjustment period when I go to my forever home, I may have a few accidents while I'm learning about my new environment. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn!

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada.

  • I will have dental cleaning, if necessary, before flying to Canada.

    • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD ($750.00 + GST & PST) including applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
