Elmo is a five-year-old, 9-pound Chihuahua mix with the most endearing little face and yes, he does look a bit like a potato with ears! This timid boy has a gentle soul and is searching for someone who understands that the best relationships take time to bloom. Elmo has been in a foster home for nearly a month learning to be brave.
His fosters have been working hard with him, and he has made great progress already! He now follows his foster mom everywhere, goes for walks (sometimes in a stroller, how cute!), cuddles in bed at night, and is starting to play with their other small dogs!
When Elmo arrived in his foster home, Elmo was very scared and showed some resource guarding behavior towards the other dogs. He has now learned that it’s okay to share toys and plays tug with their Chihuahua! He is still a work in progress and will need to continue learning to be brave through training and reassurance. His future person will be someone patient and nurturing, who delights in helping shy dogs build trust and confidence. With love, routine, and kindness, Elmo will blossom into a loyal, affectionate little companion.
Elmo’s $250 adoption fee includes his neuter, vaccinations, microchip, and a free wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. To meet this tenderhearted boy, call 602-971-1334 and we will set up an appointment. He is not at the shelter, so an appointment is required.

Home Fur Good has trained adoption counselors to review and question any potential problems/issues with application. We do require an adoption fee which ranges for dogs $150-$300 and for cats $50-$100. All cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and vet checked.
If another dog or dogs are present in the household we require a meet and greet prior to adoption. All members of the household must be on board with adoption. We do not adopt our rescues out without meeting person that will be responsible - no "gift" adoptions. We contract that if cat/dog must be relinquished they are returned to us. If there is a change of ownership we must be kept informed who responsible party is. Fees are non refundable.

More about this rescue
Home Fur Good is a non profit no kill animal shelter located in the NE Valley. We take a majority of our cats and dogs from County, many who have treatable medical conditions and would otherwise be put down. We assess physical and behavior and work with the cats/dogs to find the best suitable match. It is our goal that each cat or dog that comes to our shelter ultimately be placed in their "furever" homes.
We also operate a low cost vaccine and microchip clinic each Sunday. We want to help community be able to care for and keep their animals safe. We do not charge vet fee only fee for vaccine and microchip. Additionally we have a low cost dental clinic each Wednesday. Check our website for more details.
