Ernie and Bert are 4 and 5 year old, 15-pound Chihuahua mixes who are discovering the joys of a new life. They came to us after living outdoors their entire lives. Before arriving here, these boys had never been on a walk, slept in a cozy bed, or even visited a vet. Despite such a rough start, they have shown a gentle spirit and a willingness to learn.
At first, Ernie and Bert can be timid, but with kindness and patience, their sweet and affectionate nature begins to shine through. They are already learning to walk on a leash and, while not fully confident yet, they are both making progress every day. The bros especially enjoy the comfort of their kennel beds, a simple luxury they never knew before.
Ernie and Bert are a bonded pair. Bert gains much of his confidence through Ernie, who reminds him that being brave results in the best neck scritches and love from their human friends! With love, structure, and patience, Ernie and Bert will blossom into the wonderful companions they were meant to be.
Ernie and Bert’s adoption fee of $400 covers essential services such as spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, and a complimentary wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Home Fur Good has trained adoption counselors to review and question any potential problems/issues with application. We do require an adoption fee which ranges for dogs $150-$300 and for cats $50-$100. All cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and vet checked.
If another dog or dogs are present in the household we require a meet and greet prior to adoption. All members of the household must be on board with adoption. We do not adopt our rescues out without meeting person that will be responsible - no "gift" adoptions. We contract that if cat/dog must be relinquished they are returned to us. If there is a change of ownership we must be kept informed who responsible party is. Fees are non refundable.

Home Fur Good is a non profit no kill animal shelter located in the NE Valley. We take a majority of our cats and dogs from County, many who have treatable medical conditions and would otherwise be put down. We assess physical and behavior and work with the cats/dogs to find the best suitable match. It is our goal that each cat or dog that comes to our shelter ultimately be placed in their "furever" homes.
We also operate a low cost vaccine and microchip clinic each Sunday. We want to help community be able to care for and keep their animals safe. We do not charge vet fee only fee for vaccine and microchip. Additionally we have a low cost dental clinic each Wednesday. Check our website for more details.
