Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Scarecrow came into rescue a depressed and scared boy, but has blossomed in rescue. We had been told he was dumped on the street with another dog and they roamed for two weeks, getting fed by concerned folks in the neighborhood before landing in the shelter. RROC was contacted and brought him into rescue. Scarecrow is an absolutely gorgeous three year old yellow Lab who is good with other dogs of all ages and sizes once he has been introduced and knows they are no threat to anyone in the household. Scarecrow could be considered the ideal dog except for one confusing trait: if someone is on the other side of a barrier, Scarecrow goes into protection mode. We have no idea if someone put him through training for this or if he came to this behavior on his own. Scarecrow will not back down until the perceived threat has gone. It's very surprising to see a Lab seriously protecting what he perceives as his crew and territory but Scarecrow is very committed to this role. Because of this behavior, we would like to place Scarecrow only in a home with an experienced dog owner and in an adult-only home. Scarecrow is in all other ways a typical Lab. He gets along well with everyone he meets after he is introduced and assured that this is a friend. Treats make this process a thirty-second endeavor! Scarecrow loves retrieving frisbees or tennis balls but doesn't get upset if other dogs snag them before he does. We suspect that Scarecrow's vision in one eye might not be as good as in the other, so his ability to catch sometimes is not perfect. He is an utterly easy-going dog, except when he isn't and those times always involve fences.
We require an application, phone interview and home visit prior to meeting a dog and potential adoption. Our adoption fee for dogs under 9 months is $400, dogs between 9 months and 8 years is $350 and 8+ years is $125.. Please visit our website for more information. Thank you!
