My name is Bessie!

Bessie is a friendly and gentle soul looking for a loving home. She's not the flashiest, she won't fling herself at her kennel bars or scream for your attention, but she's a steady, constant companion who's ready to find her person to curl up on the couch with. This sweetheart hasn't had it easy in life - she came into the shelter underweight with eye and skin issues. While we weren't able to save her eye, she's much more comfortable without it! Despite her initial challenges, Bessie is a calm, affectionate girl who will make a lucky family so happy!


*Bessie had an abnormal spay surgery - her uterus was completely removed, as usual, but appeared to have suffered past trauma. With abnormal spay surgeries, there's the possibility that there was some ovarian tissue that was not in the correct general area, and therefore not found and removed. This tissue could produce hormones, leading to symptoms of being "in heat". However, Bessie has been fully spayed, and cannot get pregnant.
While we have not seen any signs of this in the months since she's been spayed (and we likely would have by now), we want any adopter to be informed!
