Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bernard’s story is a bit of a mystery. He came to us after being found abandoned in front of a Chick-fil-A in Warwick—in the middle of a busy Saturday, in broad daylight, inside a soft-sided carrier. We don’t know how or why he ended up there, but we do know this gentle giant deserves a much better chapter ahead.
When Bernard arrived, this 10-year-old, 14-pound sweetheart was in rough shape: infested with fleas, covered in sores, and confused about where he was. He had a heart murmur, terrible teeth, and a cauliflower ear, likely from past infections. His front declawing and extra weight have left him with a bit of a wobbly back end, but that doesn’t stop him from getting around or enjoying life—he just tips a little when he gets going too fast! Despite it all, Bernard has proven to be one of the sweetest, most good-natured cats we’ve ever met.
Bernard is curious, smart, and charming. He loves toys (from little mice to automated feather teasers), enjoys his food maybe a little too much, and absolutely melts for brushing and gentle pets. While he can be a little nervous at first, once he feels comfortable, Bernard reveals his true self — a total lap cat who adores being close to his people and soaking up affection.
He’s a polite houseguest—great litter box habits, incredibly well-behaved, and unbothered by other cats. He hasn’t officially met his foster’s cats (they’re a bit too proud to visit), but he’s shown interest through the door and would likely do fine with a calm, respectful feline friend.
Bernard is still decompressing from everything he’s been through, and he’ll need a quiet, patient home without small children—one that will give him time to fully relax and remember what it feels like to be loved and secure.
He’s been through so much, but his heart is still so open. It’s impossible not to fall for him the moment you meet him. 💛
Please be sure to read a cat's full bio before applying! We do our best to keep bios updated as we learn more about each cat or as circumstances change. The bio is the best place to find the most current and important information about their needs, personality, and ideal home.
