My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mercury!

Mercury is an 8-month-old terrier mix with a gentle soul, a sharp mind, and just the right amount of puppy silliness. She came into foster care with her sister, who was adopted a month ago—now it’s Mercury’s turn to find her forever home.

She is one of the sweetest and most intelligent puppies we’ve fostered. Mercury is well-behaved, thoughtful, and surprisingly independent for her age. She is housebroken and pee-pad trained, and has done wonderfully living in an apartment. She settles well when left alone, can entertain herself, and truly thrives just being near her people.

Mercury enjoys calm walks around the block, playing with her toys, and curling up as close as possible to her humans. When given the chance, she also loves to run around and stretch her legs—she recently had the best time on an upstate hike, happily zooming through the snow.

She is currently fostered with kittens. While she would love to play with them (and doesn’t always realize how big she is), she is respectful and gentle—even when the kittens are not particularly impressed.

With other dogs, Mercury does best with pups her size or smaller. Larger dogs can be a little intimidating at first, but with slow, thoughtful introductions, she does well and gains confidence.
When meeting new people, Mercury may take a little time to warm up, but once she feels safe, she becomes everyone’s best friend. She’s convinced she’s a lap dog and happily soaks up all the affection she can get.

Like any puppy, Mercury has her silly, goofy bursts of energy, balanced perfectly with long, cozy naps. She’s affectionate, adaptable, and deeply loving—and ready to find a home that will cherish her gentle heart and playful spirit. Mercury is ready for her next chapter 💛

Mercury is being fostered in Queens, NY. Her adoption fee is $500.

"To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt

All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.

For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.

We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal."
