My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Gio was brought in by a community member on September 21, 2025./p>

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Gio, a handsome guy ready for a fresh start. After some time on his own, Gio has joined us and is learning to trust again. He can be fearful of new people and situations, so a calm, patient home where he can decompress is essential. Gio has shown dog reactivity in our care and would do best as the only dog in the household. His potty habits and feelings about cats are still unknown, but with time, we hope to learn more! Gio does have a tooth that will need to be removed, but he promises that he's well worth it! Are you ready to open your home to Gio? Bring a leash and collar and take this sweet guy home today!

At SDHS:
Gio has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. He is now ready for his new home!

Dog Reactive Dog: Gio requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about him.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
