My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Gio was brought in by a community member on September 21, 2025./p>

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Gio, a handsome guy ready to meet his loving family. Although he can be a bit shy with new people, he bonds quickly when given the chance to open up at his own pace. He enjoys going for walks in low-traffic areas and is known to be an excellent office dog, calmly sleeping next to our team members while they work. When he spots his favorite people coming to let him out of his kennel, he greets them with a wiggly body and a wagging tail, allowing pets all over. Gio has been known to have big feelings around other dogs, so although he may not be a candidate for dog parks or other off-leash venues, there are lots of other activities you can do together to strengthen your bond! If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion to brighten your days, Gio could be the one for you. Get in touch to learn more about him today!

At SDHS:
Gio has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. He is now ready for his new home!

Dog Reactive Dog: Gio requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about him.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
