My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is SAGE (my Korean name is "Seojung") and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Jindo/Alaskan Malamute mix

  • Age: 3 years (est. birth: Mar. 2022)

  • Gender: S. Female

  • Weight: 44 lbs (19.4 kg)

  • Height: 65 cm (paws to top of my head)

  • Length: 77 cm (head to butt)

  • Current Location: S. KOREA

RESCUE STORY - I was found as a small pup in the summer of 2022 near a hospital in Paju, Korea. I was rescued along with my little sister. She was lucky to find her loving forever home, but I wasn’t as fortunate. In 2023, I was transferred from a boarding facility to a shelter. Now, I’m staying at a shelter where dogs can freely roam during the day—and I’m still hoping for my turn to be chosen for adoption! I am a really loving, sweet girl and I know I'd make a wonderful companion!

TEMPERAMENT – I absolutely love people! Once I'm comfortable in my environment, I am good at meeting new people and become my true social and affectionate self. Truly, I just want to be close to humans (video). Even in a brand new environment meeting new people, I am brave (video). Sometimes, I get so excited that I might jump up a little to ask for attention or a good scratch behind the ears... I’m just so eager to connect and share love! While I spend the majority of my time at the shelter here in Korea, the volunteers have taken me on some outings to get me some more exposure to the world. You can see in my videos that I'm a pretty agreeable gal and am brave in new environments (video and video 2)!

ENERGY LEVEL – Moderate, I’m an adult dog full of energy, but most of the time, I prefer leaning in close to people and asking for gentle scratches over running around and playing. I enjoy calm affection more than wild play—I just love being near my humans and feeling connected. Once I've had my daily exercise, I will be happy to cuddle and snooze.

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown. As I love leaning on people (adults) and sometimes even jumping up to show my excitement, I would need full supervision if I’m around small children, just to make sure I don’t accidentally knock them over with my enthusiasm.

    • I met some older children at the mall and didn't seem bothered by some gentle pets! (video)

  • Dogs – Yes! I’m okay with other dogs—I don’t mind being around them at all. But if I had to choose, I definitely prefer spending time with humans over playing with dog friends. I’m more of a people-dog, but I get along just fine in a multi-dog environment and politely greet other dogs on leash (video).

  • Cats – Unknown.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – I’m pretty good on a leash (video, video 2) and especially love exploring the outdoors! I'm sure I'll still have some learning to do in my forever home, but with patience and some dedicated leash training, I have no doubt I'll be a pro in no time!

  • House trained – I’ve lived in the shelter my entire life, so I may need a bit of time and patience to become fully housebroken. But the volunteers always say I keep my kennel very clean and tidy, so they believe I’ll adjust well once I’m in a home. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home!

  • Car rides - I'm pretty chill in the car! Check it out (video, video 2)

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada.

  • I will have dental cleaning, if necessary, before flying to Canada.

    • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD ($750.00 + GST & PST) including applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.
