My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Loyal!

Surrendered to ACC when apartment life and noise complaints became too stressful, Loyal is a bright, bouncy pup who loves people and wants to be wherever you are. He comes out wiggly, learns fast with treats, and is happiest when his brain and body are busy.

My Ideal Home

I'll thrive with experienced adopters in a calm, low-traffic home. I'm a high-energy, eager learner who benefits from structure, enrichment (sniff walks, food puzzles, "find it"), and positive-reinforcement training. Because alone time has been hard for me, I'll do best with someone home often at first and a gradual plan to build my confidence when solo.

Good with Kids?

Adults only. I can be jumpy and take treats with hard pressure when excited, so no children under 13 while I polish my manners.

Good with Other Pets?

I alert-bark and may lunge toward dogs (especially small dogs) on walks, and I notice small animals. I'd do best as the only pet to start. If you have a resident dog, plan very slow, well-managed introductions. No known cat history.

Leash Manners

I pull with enthusiasm and may fixate on dogs, but I respond nicely to reward-based games (check-ins, "1-2-3," engage/disengage). A front-clip harness, clear routines, and consistent reinforcement help me settle into a looser leash.

Overall Health

Healthy overall. Recently neutered and recovering well. Had a brief tummy upset that resolved, and I'm being treated/monitored for a mild kennel cough. Staff will review simple next steps with you.

Behavior Determination

Level 3 - Adults Only. I'm social and playful but need help with impulse control, mouthy treat-taking, leash reactivity, and separation anxiety. I'll shine with positive-reinforcement training, decompression time, and predictable routines.

Other Fun Facts

I greet with a full-body wiggle, love working for snacks, and learn quickly when training is fun. If you're looking for a high-spirited roommate to adventure with-and to coach into his best manners-I'm your guy.

A Volunteer Wrote: You know that slightly naughty kid in school who always got away with things because he was so charming and funny? That's Loyal in dog form, a boy who has earned fans who laugh lovingly when they see this energy field bouncing down the hallway. Despite kennel cautions that he is dog reactive in the shelter, he's the nicest guy on a walk: Volunteers call him "a lovely companion," adding, "He's so easy to handle!"
