My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Colby!
Owner surrender (his former family-an older couple-couldn't keep up with his very high energy). Previously arrived via police after an eviction case, and was adopted before being returned for mouthiness and activity needs.

My Ideal Home
Active, experienced, adult-only home that enjoys training and daily exercise. Think: long, structured walks, decompression time, and plenty of enrichment (sniffy outings, food puzzles, tug with rules, flirt pole). Consistency + positive reinforcement will help him channel his enthusiasm.

Good with Kids?
Recommended adult-only (no children under 13) per behavior team.

Good with Other Pets?
History suggests he can be playful with some dogs, but shelter notes show over-arousal/kennel reactivity and tense gate greets. No dog parks. If you have a resident dog, plan slow, structured introductions (parallel walks, breaks, supervision). Cats: unknown.

Leash Manners
Strong, eager walker who pulls hard at times; a front-clip harness or head halter plus reward-based loose-leash practice is recommended. He may react to small animals and fast movers (squirrels, birds, bikes, skateboards)-build focus with "let's go" and treat-and-retreat games.

Overall Health
Neutered, approximately 50 lbs. Vet intake: apparently healthy. Housebroken per previous owner. As with any newly adopted dog, your vet can personalize his wellness plan.

Behavior Determination & Other
ACC Behavior Level: 3
Potential challenges noted: mouthiness/rough treat-taking, jumping up, strength/leash pulling, resource guarding of high-value or "found" objects, handling sensitivity when over-aroused, on-leash reactivity to small animals/moving objects, and stress in/around crates or close quarters with other dogs.
Recommendations: adult-only home, no dog parks, use management (front-clip harness, baby gates, tethered settle), trade-up for any item in his mouth (never grab), and practice default cues ("sit," "off," "find it") to build impulse control.

Fun Facts
Volunteers call him "easy-going, happy, WONDERFUL" with joyful prancing and a stellar sit for treats. He loves park sniffs, sunbathing at your feet, and-best of all-being part of the action with his people.

If you're up for training and tons of fun with a smart, athletic sidekick, Colby is ready to be your adventure buddy!

My boroughbreaker writes: We took a walk around Central Park and did a little sunbathing at the conservatory! He has a lot of energy and is super eager to sniff everything he can. The bustle of the city street was a little overstimulating for him, but once we got to sit down away from cars, runners, and bikes, he was very chill and started looking for pets, snuggles, and kisses. He really loved getting some time in the grass and leaves. Once you've established some trust, he happily responds to sit, paw, and lie down (for treats).
