Meet Terry - found as a stray, brought to ACC by NYPD after being discovered tied to a fence
A dignified senior (about 9 years old) with a marshmallow heart, Terry is the kind of dog who'll rest his head on your lap, lean in for ear and booty scratches, and take treats oh-so-gently. On walks he's an easygoing guy-mostly loose on leash, with the occasional "let's head back to the shelter" pause that a little coaxing fixes. He's been a quiet, thoughtful presence here, and he's more comfortable every day.
My ideal home A calm, adult-only home that will let me decompress at my pace. I warm up with kindness and routine. I'd love daily strolls, comfy beds, and puzzle toys/chews to keep my senior brain happy. Slow introductions to new people and places, please.
My straycation buddy writes: Terry has been described as a sweet, older gentleman and that is spot on. He has wonderful manners - he doesn't beg for food when you're eating; he's good when he stays home alone; he's good on a walk - although he does have an opinion about where to go! He loves to explore the neighborhood with his nose, but if you have to get somewhere, he trots happily along. He's very low energy, and is happy to snooze the afternoon away. Terry likes a calm, quiet environment - lots of noise and people can make him shake with anxiety. I think he'd be good in a home with another dog, as he tried to approach other dogs in the park with a wagging tail while whining in anticipation of a good play date!
Behavior Level: 3 Tends to be fearful at first (tense body language, "whale eye," lip licking) and benefits from a quiet start and decompression period. Please let Terry choose the pace-no forced petting or fast introductions. Once he trusts you, he's affectionate and engaged. Fun facts Classic lap-leaner: will gently rest his head in your lap for pets Scritch connoisseur-especially behind the ears and on the rump Toy sampler who'll pick one up, lounge with it, then come back for snuggles Gentle treat-taker and will sit nicely for snacks If you're looking for a tender, golden-years companion who will meet you in the quiet moments and reward patience with deep loyalty, Terry's your guy. Bring your softest voice, your coziest blankets, and your kindest heart-he'll do the rest. A Volunteer Wrote: If anyone in your life has missed the memo that dogs are the best thing in the world, introduce them to Terry, one of the best of the best! He's just an angel on four legs, walking perfectly, appearing housetrained, and so incredibly affectionate and dear in such a polite way. No wonder volunteers write "gentle and sweet," when they are describing them, and add, "A lovely walk!" Primary Color: White Weight: 66 Age: 9yrs 5mths 0wks
