My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Pickles was brought in by his previous owner on August 16, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Pickles is a smart cookie wrapped in a fluffy package - and just like his name, he's got a little tang! This clever boy can be shy when meeting new people and prefers a slow, gentle introduction. He's not a fan of too much handling or sharing his favorite snacks, so he's hoping to find a calm, lower-traffic home where he can feel secure. Pickles can be vocal around new people and other dogs, so he'd do best in a home without small children (ages 12+ only, and they must be present for the meet-and-greet). He's also quite selective with canine friends and would likely thrive as the only dog in the household. If there's a potential dog roommate, a meet-and-greet at the shelter will be required. Once Pickles feels safe and comfortable, his true personality shines - playful, active, and incredibly bright! He loves mental challenges and will excel in a home that can keep his mind busy with games, training, and positive reinforcement. Pickles is used to spending more time outdoors, so a secure yard would help him adjust to home life. With patience, consistency, and understanding, he'll reward you with his loyalty, affection, and one-of-a-kind charm.
If you're looking for a brainy, unique companion who just needs a little time and love to blossom, Pickles

At SDHS:
Pickles has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Pickles is now ready for his new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
