For inquiries email april@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $600 Location: Newport News, VA Meet Reese Reese is from a puppy mill in Pennsylvania. She is a 4 (almost 5) year old, 14 pound Miniature Schnauzer. She just arrived on Friday, November 7th so we are just learning her personality. So far she is hanging out with the resident female schnauzer and getting used to life as a pet. As with the other puppy mill dogs in our care, she also needs a dental. She will see the vet soon to schedule the dental cleaning and spay surgery. You can see from her profile photos she was only valued for her puppy making skills and all other care took a back seat. Well, that all changes today! We are allowing Reese to have plenty of space to decompress. She is a bit skittish and confused as you can imagine but her foster sibling Hilda is showing her the ropes. She will catch on quickly. We cannot wait to see her personality blossom! Stay tuned for more updates and photos. Once she has healed from surgery she will be available for adoption. Please follow us on social media for the most up to date photos and information. After submission we check with the vet you referenced to obtain your pets medical history and the adopters compliance with recommendations
2.
Interview
Once you pass the vet. reference, we schedule an interview to find out more about you, the applicant, and the type of dog you want to adopt
3.
Home Check
If the phone interview is passed we then visit your home to see how one of our dogs reacts to the family, other pets and the environment.
4.
Approve Application
We have a committee to whom the applications are presented. They read over the entire packet and either approve or deny the app
5.
Meet the Pet
Once an adopter is approved they can call the foster parents and find out more about our dogs. If they match we set up a Meeting
6.
Sign Adoption Contract
If one of our dogs is a good fit, then at the meet an adoption can take place during the meet and greet
7.

More about this rescue
The founding members of our rescue are dog lovers. Especially, small dogs! When we saw the need to help so many small dogs of various breeds and mixes, we collaborated to form a non-breed-specific rescue to help as many small dogs as possible. Our mission is to help dogs who weigh up to 20 pounds.
Adoption is not first come first served. We match our dogs to potential owners to ensure the best outcomes for all involved! Our philosophy is: Rescue - Rehabilitate - Rejoice!
Our mission statement is as follows:
Compact Canine Rescue is a network of volunteers committed to rehabilitating small dogs and rehoming them with forever families on the east coast of the United States. We are passionate about promoting responsible pet parenting and educating the public on what makes dogs healthy and happy.
