Maybell ACCT-A-238852 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Maybell must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by SATURDAY, JANUARY 3rd by 10:00 am. Should Maybell’s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.
Maybell was brought to the shelter after being found roaming by officers. From the start, she has shown herself to be an outgoing, people-loving dog who enjoys engagement, enrichment, and play. While the shelter environment can sometimes be overwhelming for her, Maybell continues to show a strong desire to connect and has made many positive impressions on staff and volunteers.
Maybell is an incredibly social, affectionate girl who greets people with wiggles, soft eyes, and happy tail wags. She enjoys meeting new people when introductions are calm and on her terms, and she does best with gentle approaches rather than sudden or intense ones. She is treat motivated, takes treats gently, knows how to sit, and gets delightfully playful when toys or treats are involved. Maybell loves toys, enjoys fetch and tug, and happily carries toys around the yard. She has had positive interactions with other dogs at the shelter, showing appropriate social skills, play behaviors, and the ability to match other dogs’ energy. On leash, Maybell is strong and can pull, especially when something exciting catches her attention, so she will benefit from continued leash training and an adopter who is comfortable handling a strong dog.
BEHAVIOR NOTES:
On 12/20 per volunteer: Just pulled very hard on leash so that I needed two hands on the leash to walk.
She especially pulled when she saw a cat. I had to dig my feet in and lean back when she saw it.
Other than that was sweet - no concerns other than strength /pulling. No jumping or anything. Not scary in any way.
*Leveling up to exp gold*
On 12/12 per staff: Maybell did have some stranger danger reactions while I attempted to send her on a day trip so I ultimately decided not to send but I really enjoyed the brief time I spent with her. Anyone who greeted her softly with baby talk she greeted back with tail wags and accepted pets. However, when turning a corner we ran into a staff member abruptly and she did get spooked and let out a "bruff". When in the foster office, a man came by and stared at her through the gate and she started persistently alert barking at him. It took her maybe 5-10 seconds after he walked away to brush the interaction off. The type of approach is important with this girl, as she met several other people and did great when she was allowed to walk up to them on her terms! The second she heard the crinkle of a treat bag she was SAT. She takes treats gently and will get very playful when you throw them for her. She also got very excited and playful when I took out a leash and seemed to know what it meant! Although I wanted to send her, I didn't want anyone spooking her on the day trip so I took her back to her kennel. She gave me no issues returning.
On 12/12 per volunteer: Kennel Presentation: maybell was standing at the front of her kennel with neutral ears, eyes and tail. She was easy to leash.
Leash Skills: Maybell pulls moderately to strongly on leash.
Sociability: Maybell is incredibly social. She greets everyone with wiggles. She has soft eyes and a mid level tail wag. She allowed handling all over by the handler and a group of volunteers. She wandered around the room saying hi to everyone. She accepted treats gently. They were making enrichment and she sat kindly waiting for treats to be given, never jumped up on the table. Mable knows sit. She tolerated having tiny hats put on her. She sat so nicely for a picture with the group. Estimated 1-2 years old.
Play: Maybell loves toys. She wander around the yard switching out toys. She would jump up when the handler had a toy in her hand but eventually would wait for it to be tossed. She would chase after the toy and bring it back to the handler. She allowed the handler to play tug with her. She would swap out toys for others.
Dog Interaction: Maybell had a few fence meets. The first was with a large male dog, he was play bowing and zooming around the yard. Maybell was leaning forward, sniffing with a mid level tail wag. Eventually Maybell started play bowing and getting vocal on the other side. The second was with a scared dog who sniffed along the fence line, Maybell matched his energy well, just quietly sniffing through the fence. The final was with a female dog who was barking, barring teeth and muzzle punching the fence. Maybell with ear back and a mid level tail was also vocalizing and occasionally punching at the fence.
Return to Kennel: no issues
Color Level: gold
On 12/12 per staff: A volunteer brought her into the office to meet a group of volunteers, and she was incredibly friendly! She welcomed pets from everyone, was gentle with all-over petting, and sat politely for treats. She even happily posed for a group photo. She also adores toys and stayed relaxed and happy while allowing everyone to handle them.
On 12/8 per staff: Officers dropped off a medium to large dog at the shelter. They found her roaming at the location given. Easy to handle and walks well on the leash.
