My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Caitlin Finn (caitlin.finn@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet mama ready for her own family!

ANGELICA NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name: Angelica      Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix

Best Guess for Age:  2 years as of November 2025     SEX:   Female

Approximate Weight:   40 lbs

Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!

Currently Living at:  Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here.

Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Angelica would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure shde can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.

Additionally, you may see in the pictures that Angelica has hair growing out of an odd place at the bottom of her right eye. We will address that growth before she comes to the DC area!

Angelica is Looking For:  Angelica is a sato - a dog from Puerto Rico. She did an amazing job of raising her nine babies Mr. Dali, Mr. Leonardo, Mr. Matisse, Mr. Monet, Mr. Picasso, Mr. Van Gogh, Ms. Georgia, Ms. Leonora, and Ms. Tamara to be amazing family pets. They all have gone off to their forever homes, and Angelica can't wait for her turn!

She's a young girl looking forward to sniffy walks and romps in parks and all the adventures her new family can dream up. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed would be great too, but you know what she wants most of all?

To be safe and loved, to know where she belongs. Is that by your side?

What My Foster Says About Me:  We will update this once she has spent time in foster care.

Heartworm information: Angelica is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.

We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
