Leftie arrived at our shelter in early November — scared, uncertain, and quiet by nature. She came in alongside her sister Rightie, who found her forever home already! Leftie has watched her sister go home and is still hoping someone will open their heart (and door) to her.
In her kennel, Leftie seems to shrink a little more each day. Her big soulful eyes full of longing for someone to notice her, reach in, and offer a soft word or a gentle hand. She’s a shy girl at first glance, but beneath that shell is still a playful, energetic puppy. All she needs is a little encouragement — a kind voice, a slow approach, maybe a treat — and she begins to trust again. Walk with her on leash and you’ll see her tail start to wag. Sit down nearby and she’ll inch her way over, eventually curling up quietly at your feet. Offer her a stuffed toy, and she’ll gleefully tear it apart, fluff flying and joy in every tug — showing you just how playful she can be once she feels safe.
Leftie is gentle with treats — she doesn’t snatch; she accepts them with the most delicate, trusting nudge. That tells you everything: she’s ready to be gentle, loyal, and devoted to someone who will be gentle in return. What she really needs now is a home with one of three things: patience, love, or better yet — another friendly dog. A sibling-type companion can help show her what being a dog again feels like: playtime, sharing the sofa, quiet comfort.
As the holidays approach, her kennel feels colder — not just because of the chill in the air, but because of the soft emptiness of waiting. Leftie deserves to spend them in a warm home, not a shelter.

If you are interested in adopting an animal: 1) Write down the Animal ID # . 2) Make sure to mention Animal ID # when visiting or calling. 3) Remember all adoptions stop 30 minutes prior to closing time. 3) You will not be allowed to place a hold on the animal. 4) It cannot be shipped to you. 5) Before adopting it, you can spend time with the animal outside or in a "meet and greet" room. Please ask for assistance. 6) We take cash, checks, debit cards, VISA and Mastercard as a method of payment. **IMPORTANT: Huntsville Animal Services cannot guarantee that any animal will still be available for adoption as we do not hold animals for anyone under any circumstances. Animals are adopted on a first come, first serve basis. You may want to call and ask if one is still available prior to visiting the shelter. When you adopt a pet, it will stay at the shelter and be taken to the veterinarian of your choice where it will be spayed or neutered before going to its new home. If it is already spayed or neutered, it can go home with you upon adoption. My adoption cost is very affordable and includes my adoption fee, spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, license (if you live within Huntsville city limits), and microchip.
ADOPTION FEES
Cats seven months and older are currently $35 that includes spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, microchip, city license tag if applicable, feline AIDS/LEUKEMIA test, and may also include other basic vaccinations when applicable. Kittens six months and younger are $50.

Adopting parties must have proof of identification. They must be 19 years of age or older. They must not be intoxicated. The adoption process takes approximately 30 minutes for the paperwork. Please allow ample time to look for the pet of your dreams, visit with it, and do all appropriate paperwork. We do not suggest adoptions for a gift. If you desire to give the gift of a new pet, bring that person with you and allow them to pick out their new family member.
