My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a precious, beautiful jewel here. Her name is Jade, and she is about 5 years old. This wonderful girl needs a lot of love and patience as she is frightened of the world around her. Instead of playing with toys or watching the world go by as most cats do, Jade hides under her bed away from everyone and everything. When you reach to pet her, she just lies there as if she is petrified. The shelter journey has been hard for her, so she is looking for a home where she can decompress and learn to be happy again. We know she has the strength to come out of her shell given the time and love that she needs. She is also spayed and up to date on her core vaccinations and monthly preventatives. More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
