My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What Makes Me So Special
Lily, a spayed female French Bulldog (1yr 11months and 33.4lbs) is playful, loyal, affectionate, and has the most adorable overbite. Her favorite thing to do is carry around and chase after balls (and her favorite are the 1.5” ones that squeak). She also loves to play tug-of-war with her best bud Lincoln, chase ice cubes, eat leaves from outside, enjoys fruit, going on walks, giving kisses and chewing on bones. One of the things about Lily that always makes me, and the kids laugh is her ability to get 33 pounds of muscle up in the air with ease. She will regularly jump like a kangaroo and is a pro at launching herself to the altitude necessary to keep a close surveillance of what’s on the kitchen counter. She doesn’t like to go outside when it’s cold and wet so potty breaks can take some extra encouragement on those days. And while I would love to say she never has an accident in the house that would be untrue. Some days she just can’t be bothered with walking the 5 steps needed to potty outside so if she is having one of those days, she may need a personal escort to potty palace. Lily also does not love car rides, and can be very protective over her meals, treats, and favorite toys. We have worked with a trainer to address Lily’s resource guarding with other dogs and have found that it gives Lily more peace and less anxiety (and us) to enjoy her
meals, bones and treats while in her crate. Lily has shown aggression towards dogs that approach her while she is eating, enjoying a bone/treat or her favorite toy. Lily will happily go in her crate to enjoy her favorite things and will choose to go in her crate when she wants a nap. Lily sleeps soundly in her crate all night letting out the occasional snort and snore. She also goes in her crate when her humans leave the house because if given the chance, she can be quite naughty. If unsupervised Lily will and has taken the opportunity to completely deconstruct favorite shoes, decapitate action figures, break in that new throw pillow and/or redecorate the house with treasures she found in the garbage. She will destroy with absolute joy and when she
looks up at you with those doe eyes you WILL have a hard time staying upset with her.
When playing outside with her best pal Lincoln (“Link”) she loves to run, chase after balls, (chase after Lincoln) and pull-on tug toys with her humans or with Lincoln. Lily will need an outside space that is fenced-in as she has been known to follow Lincoln on some adventures if given the opportunity. Lily has stage 1 IVDD and you would never know it; however, it is imperative that play be monitored so as not to exacerbate this condition and make it worse. Lily and Lincoln have enjoyed being “siblings,” but they can play quite aggressively with each other at times, so it is important to be tuned into playtime, so it doesn’t get too rough. As a pair they mimic each other’s energy and we have found that they can be overstimulated living in a multi- dog household. This overstimulation can and has caused them to show aggression towards each other in times of high stress. So, when we know that the agenda for the day is going to
include lots of commotion or stress in the home (kids birthday party for example) we have moved their crates to a quiet, calm space and that seems to work well for everyone until the house has settled. It’s important to note that Lily has never shown aggression towards a human. Lily is wonderful with my kids, smothers them with kisses and allows them to take objects from her with no issues. Lily has lived in a home with children under the age of 10 but I don’t think a forever home with small children would be the best idea. She is all muscle and can be a little overpowering for small humans at times. I also think that if small animals such as cats, gerbils, birds, etc..... were present in the home they could quickly become one of her new favorite toys. (and most of the
time she eats her favorite toys) Lily does have some seasonal allergies and takes Apoquel daily to help with that. She also has a sensitive stomach, so she eats Royal Canin Gastrointestinal dry dog food. She loves scrambled eggs, fruit and some vegetables. Lily does need to have her face gently cleaned a couple times a week (especially between her wrinkles), which she doesn’t mind at all. She does not love getting her nails cut so we have typically had that done at our veterinarian. Lily is up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and on heartworm prevention. We prefer to keep Lily and Lincoln together if possible and as the only dogs in their forever home.

Additional adoption info

The adoption fee is generally based on the dog's age and provides for neutering or spaying, all required shots, heartworm testing (we endorse "the new moxie-doxy" treatment for heart worms).

It is our expectation & a requirement that heartworm preventative be continued as well as any required vet visits after the pet is adopted.

If for some reason a match isn't made the first time around and you are approved, we will keep your application on file for the next opportunity to arise. Our primary goal is to place a dog in the most suitable environment, based on the animal's individual needs and its temperament. The commitment is lifelong and the Boston's interests are always foremost.

More about this rescue

All breeds have their own particular needs and rescued pets often have special requirements as well, very often in want of medical care, often lacking nourishment and kindness, and often expensive to rehabilitate.

Because we have had Boston Terriers for many years, we are very familiar with their habits, peculiarities and their special needs.

We operate across the southeast under the auspices of the Boston Terrier Rescue Network. We share information and resources in all of the USA with affiliated Boston Rescues.
