My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please complete  an Adoption Request Form. This is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about our adoption process, please visit our Adoption Process page on our website at www.rescuecrew.org.

A Little Q&A with Nyla

Tell us a little bit about your background.

I was picked up as a stay in Texas - I was starving, all skin and bones! The shelter took me in and arranged for me to come to Minnesota to start the search for a family to call my own. Shortly after I arrived, I got really sick and ended up in the ER where they discovered I had an intestinal intussusception - which is pretty serious! I was rushed into (a very expensive!) surgery and the good doctors saved my life. My recovery has gone really well and I’m feeling like a new dog. I’m slowly putting on weight so Foster Mom (FM) can stop calling me “Noodle” and I’m ready to find a family and start a new wonderful life!

I'm listed as a pit bull, but FM thinks that's only partly true. I'm probably an interesting mix of things with my scruffy body, pointy nose and long legs. What other breeds do you think I might be made up of?

Do you have any unusual habits or traits?

Boy - do I! I have a pretty obsessive personality (FM hopes I don’t grow out of it and continue to be a “weird dog” - whatever that means) Things I’m obsessed with: food (naturally), licking my foster dog-brother’s arm pit (luckily he’s patient), the upstairs bathroom, the plant in the bedroom, a stack of lumber in the basement, the washing machine, climbing on FM’s desk to steal office supplies, and barking at the hairdryer.

I run in circles around and around and around the kitchen island while FM prepares my food. And I love racing up and down the stairs for no reason other than IT’S SUPER FUN!

Do you have any special skills?

Potty trained: I am if you are! I give really clear signals when I need to go out, but I don’t vocalize it, so you have to be watching to catch the signs. When we work together, I have about a 99% success rate. With a little teamwork, I’m sure I’ll get it nailed down soon!

Kennel trained: I’ll be honest, I don’t love it and will complain loudly for a bit, but I can do it when I have to. I’m practicing by spending a little time in there after every meal so I can learn to chill out when I need to. It’s not so bad…

I know how to ‘sit’ and I’m working really hard on ‘stay’ (I’ve MASTERED the two-second stay so far!). I generally come when called and am learning “off” to keep my little paws off the counter. I’m pretty smart and I’m picking all this up relatively quickly.

What’s the best thing about you?

Besides my stunning good looks? Probably that I’m really, really, REALLY sweet. Behind the puppy energy and busyness, I’m just a huge cuddle bug. Nothing is better in the whole world than cuddling up in your lap, or resting my head on your shoulder, or tucking my pointy nose up under your chin, or curling up tight by your side in bed. If full body contact is your love language, then we’re going to be BFFs forever.

What are you looking for in a family?

I want a family who’s into adventure and activity and wants a cute dog to be a part of everything they do! I’m fun loving and energetic and cuddly and I want the same from the people I’m going to call family. I like my foster dog-brother, so another dog in the family would be fun too. I’m bouncy and use my mouth a lot, but with some maturity and training I’ll be great with kids as well. I haven’t met a cat yet, but I doubt it’s a dealbreaker. After such a rocky start in life, I really just want to settle in to a safe place and people that I can rely on. Something I can call HOME :)

Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption.

The Rescue Crew is a foster based rescue organization, meaning all of our adoptable pets are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a physical location where you can stop by to visit the animals - we require the completion of an Adoption Request Form prior to meeting any of our adoptable pets in foster care. For the most complete information regarding this animal, and all of our adoptable pets, please ensure you are visiting our website directly at www.RescueCrew.org. You can also access the necessary online forms here as well.

Additional adoption info

We want to be sure that the adoption process is as smooth and positive an experience as possible. Our animals are in foster homes and we do everything we can to learn as much about their likes and dislikes, temperament and activity level as we can while in our care. By doing so, it enables us to work more closely with a potential adopter to help ensure a "good fit." The adoption process might take a bit longer than adopting from a shelter, but our ultimate goal is finding a match that benefits not just the animal, but also the family interested in adopting.

We are looking to let our adopters chose the speed of the adoption process. To start the process, we require that an adoption application be completed. Once submitted, we will connect with you to discuss the type of animal you're looking for, your lifestyle and home environment, and what the best fit may be. At times, we may request to conduct a home visit, which can often be done in tandem with what we refer to a "meet and greet" where you have the opportunity to meet and interact with the animal(s) you're interested in adopting. Ad part of our process we conduct background check on all applicants, will check personal and vet references also. Our goal is always the proper placement for any adopted animal, which may mean that the animal you originally are interested in may turn out to not be the best fit, but we will work with you to find a better match. Adoption fees include spaying/neutering of all animals, age appropriate vaccinations ad microchipping and range anywhere from $80-$175 for cats and $200-$450 for dogs.

Prior to finalizing adoptions we require a signed Contract & Agreement which includes an understanding that if for any reason the animal does not work out that you will return them back to The Rescue Crew.

Go meet their pets

As all of our animals are in private foster homes, we do not have a facility where adoptable animals can be met. However, we do host adoption events occasional throughout the Twin Cities metro area, and those will be posted both on our website and Facebook pages.

More about this rescue

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Minnesota-based animal rescue organization which strives to prevent the unnecessary euthanasia of companion animals by finding them loving forever homes. The Rescue Crew was established specifically to fill a need in the local Twin Cities metro area to help shelter animals facing imminent risk of euthanasia without rescue support.

OUR MISSION: We are here to help save the lives of companion animals in need. Those who are homeless; the abused or abandoned; the neglected and unloved, and to show them human compassion and kindness, ultimately helping them become valued family members in a loving home.

OUR VISION: We envision the day where every adoptable animal has the opportunity of finding a responsible, loving home. A world where pets are no longer mistreated, abused or abandoned.
