My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

GitHub is a mix of Jack Russel terrier and dachshund, and he combines the best of both breeds. He has the sandy brown color and compact potato-shaped body of a dachshund, adorable facial structure of a Jack Russell (which just a dusting of sugar showing his status as a distinguished gentleman), and the floppy chocolate ears of both breeds. GitHub is a friendly boy who ambles about looking for a sniff here and there; he’s getting along well with the other dogs (and people!) at Muttville with his polite manners and upbeat spirit. This portly gentleman has been searching for his forever home, and he’s considering potential families – if you’d like to throw your hat in the ring, come meet this sweet senior today!

Here's some notes from his foster:

Happy to take a solid stroll. Delighted to be buried in a blanket.

Despite being low to the ground, GitHub handles stairs competently and will leap onto a chair or bed no problem if it seems like it’ll be cozy and have a good view of you. He’ll cuddle a bit but seems most interested to be cozy near you versus on you.

He sits at the door to have his leash attached. He’s loose on long walks (1-3 miles), doesn’t react much when dogs across the street get barky and excited. He happily and calmly introduces himself to dogs large and small when out and about, but doesn’t seem tempted to play too much and seems unfamiliar with toys.

He loves his breakfast and dinner but isn’t treat or crumb oriented (he sat wrapped in a blanket on my lap out to breakfast , nose at plate level, and only ate the few tiny egg bites I offered, wasn’t nosey at all… amazing restraint!!)

He likes to know where I am and will come looking for me a short few minutes after he’s lost track of me. In the few days I’ve had him, I’ve not left him at home and gone
out for more than 30 minutes, but he seems to be getting more used to the reliability of the movements in a new house.

He’s not very vocal and is pretty slow to push open doors that are ajar. Though he’s good on long walks, he likes to do his morning business down the street and head straight back to the warm house for breakfast and more blanket wrapped energy renewal time.

He sleeps still and quietly all night on his own little dog pad and under his own cozy blanket at the head of my bed. His ideal would be to have my pillow. His resting mode usually involves tucking at least his nose if not his whole body into something.

He’s very sweet and gentle in my experience and very good looking.
