My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dom is a fun, playful, and incredibly handsome boy who’s ready to find his forever home. He’s easy to harness, and once you toss a toy out of his kennel, he’s all in and ready to go! Dom can be strong at first on leash, but after he gets some energy out, he settles in nicely and relaxes.

Dom is very smart and listens well—he already knows tricks and is eager to learn more, especially when food and treats are involved (they’re his favorite!). He absolutely loves spending time playing in the yard, showing off his playful and goofy side.

With a medium energy level, Dom would be a great match for an active lifestyle, and he’ll likely relax even more once he’s out of the shelter environment. He’s leash trained, house trained, and full of personality—lovable, intelligent, and always ready for fun.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
