🚂 All Aboard the Choo Choo Train! 🚂 This silly, sweet snuggle bug just rolled into the station and is patiently waiting for her forever family to hop aboard! Choo Choo arrived at the shelter as a puppy with her littermates and quietly watched as each of them found their new homes. Though she can be a little shy at first, it doesn't take long for her to warm up into a loving, affectionate cuddlebug.

This gentle girl has a delightfully goofy side. She loves chasing balls, splashing in puddles, and playing with other pups. Whether she's napping, playing, or chewing on a squeaky toy, Choo Choo is happiest when she's close to her people. Currently in foster care, Choo Choo is doing great with both a doggy sibling and a toddler, proving she's kid- and dog-friendly.

Her ideal forever home would be a quieter, low-traffic environment with:

A confident resident dog to help show her the ropes
Patient humans who will give her time to bloom
A yard to romp and play to her heart's content

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year.
