My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Charlotte and my foster mom says I'm a sweet, sensitive and perfect puppy.

I was adopted once but returned after I sustained a leg injury after hitting a pole running next to my owner's bike. Ouch. I landed back in the shelter's ICU and they've been keeping an eye on my back right leg. They said I'm not available for adoption yet but hopefully I'll get cleared after my next round of x-rays!

At the shelter I was really scared and shutdown but as soon as I got into my foster mom's house and met my foster dog sibling, my whole world changed! They keep saying something about how I'm coming out of my shell but I didn't realize dogs even had those.

My foster mom says I'm perfectly house-trained and that I'm a Stage 3 clinger. Not quite a Stage 5 because I don't follow you around all the time but I do like to be near my human. When my foster mom is working, I like to be in my dog bed next to her desk and I entertain myself with a chew or stuffie. I'm really into physical touch and sometimes I'll nuzzle my head into your elbow crevice or want to keep my paws on you when I'm resting, my foster mom says I'm completely adorable!

Here's my wishlist when it comes to a forever home:

  • Playful, confident doggy sibling (I love having another dog around, it helps me with my confidence and I love to play!)
  • A human who understands I'm shy and a little unsure at first, but I'm very curious and just need time
  • Squeaky stuffy toys, and a lot of them! (My favorite pastime is throwing around my stuffies and making them squeak squeak squeak)
  • Because I'm not dog reactive and walk okay on the leash (I'm working on it..) I'd do great in house with a yard or an apartment..but I'll probably be a little unsure about the stairs and elevator at first.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
