My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Step aside, world — Loretta has arrived, and she knows she’s fabulous. This petite pit bull mix might be medium in size, but her personality could fill a stadium. She’s smart, sassy, and her endearing personality has amassed her a whole fan club of volunteers at the shelter. Once you’re in Loretta’s circle, you’re in for life — she’ll shower you with love, loyalty, and a few dramatic head tilts for good measure.

Loretta recently went on a field trip and had an absolute blast: she played with toys, had her own spa day with a bath, strutted her stuff in the backyard like it was Paris Fashion Week, and rode in the car like a curious co-pilot. She insisted on sitting upright to look out the windshield — because, of course, the star needs to see where the chauffeur is taking her.

She’s also a smart cookie! During a sleepover with a volunteer, Loretta showed she’s quickly picking up on house training, is crate trained, and loves having a comfy spot to curl up after a day of adventures.

If you’re looking for a dog who will make you laugh every day, love you endlessly, and add a little sparkle (and sass) to your life, Loretta is your girl.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 kittens up to 6 months
$120 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
