Hazel is a sweet, six-year-old terrier with a unique perspective on life—she’s blind! While this may make her a bit cautious, it also means she has learned to navigate the world with confidence in her own way.
Hazel can be a little spicy if rushed, so she would do best in a calm, patient home where introductions are slow and gentle. With the right approach, she shows her affectionate, loyal, and loving side.
This special girl is looking for a family who understands her needs, respects her boundaries, and can offer plenty of love, routine, and reassurance. If you’re ready to go at Hazel’s pace, she will become a devoted and rewarding companion. 💛🐾
From her foster: "Meet Hazel
Hazel is a tiny senior terrier mix (approx. 7-8 lbs) who's happiest doing the important work of napping, snuggling, and keeping your lap warm. She is fully blind, but she navigates confidently once she learns your layout, especially when you talk to her as you move around. She is low-to-medium energy, quiet, eats well, and loves a good bone almost as much as she loves a cozy blanket.
Handling and mobility
Because Hazel can’t see you coming, she can startle at sudden movements or surprise touches, especially near her backside. In a calm home with a "voice first, then gentle touch" approach, she relaxes quickly and becomes incredibly sweet. She cannot manage stairs or jump on furniture, so she does best with single-level living and a human who doesn’t mind being her chauffeur.
Routine & Manners
Hazel has lovely home manners. She is reliably potty trained on a schedule (usually every 4-6 hours) and holds it comfortably overnight. At bedtime, she does well in her own highly-cushioned bed and sleeps through the night. She is content with alone time and isn't much for leash walks—especially in the cold—so she is happiest with quick potty breaks followed by warm indoor lounging.
The ideal match
She is friendly with other dogs, but because she is tiny and bumps into things, she needs calm, non-rowdy roommates who won’t accidentally knock her around. For safety, she is recommended for a home without young children, as unpredictable movements can startle her, and she may react if caught off guard. A small, enclosed outdoor area would be a huge bonus, allowing her to do her business efficiently and safely explore the perimeter when the weather is nice.
Closing arguments
Hazel is the kind of dog who makes ordinary evenings better. If you’re looking for a sweet, easy companion to warm your lap and your heart, Hazel will fit right in."
