My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!

I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.

I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.

Goody Goody Gumdrop was in the back of the cubby behind the towel, and when he saw the assessor, he lowered his head so his eyes were just below the edge of the towel. His ears were sideways, and he lip licked, but he sniffed treats, and then allowed petting on his head and along his back while remaining subdued and shy. He appears to be a very sweet cat who needs some time to warm up.

Goody Goody Gumdrop tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.

A volunteer writes: Goody Goody Gumdrop seems to be convinced he can make himself invisible. He was found trying his best to hide underneath a park bench, but this is no place for a kitty, especially in the cold. Thankfully a Good Samaritan's dog alerted them of Goody Goody Gumdrop's unsuccessful attempts and steps were made to get him out of the elements and into the safety of a loving forever family. There's a middle part here that's missing and Goody seems to wish to skip as well and that's the shelter. He seems to know that he needs to try, but he's still stuck on trying to prove that he can make himself invisible. Goody Goody Gumdrop stayed snuggled in the back with wide and worried eyes until he didn't. A little snack coupled with some patience allowed him to shed his invisibility cloak for a moment and let himself relax into the affection he deserves. We can't skip this middle shelter part any more than we can take away the confusion that came with his life before, but we can certainly work together to make Goody Goody Gumdrop's future as wonderful as he deserves.
