My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Helloo friends! My name is JAY and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Lab/Border Collie Mix

  • Age: approx. 1.5 years

  • Gender: Male

  • Weight: 54 lbs (24.4 kg) **I could probably lean out a little bit though, hehe**

  • Height: 50cm (paws to shoulders)

  • Length: 60 cm (nose to butt)

  • Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY - I was found wandering alone in a plaza in Mexico City in early January 2025. I was a bit skinny, hungry, and scared. Somewhat frantically, I was found trying to get people’s attention, running from crowd to crowd. You can see some of my rescue story here! Luckily, my rescuer took notice of me and scooped me up! I was taken to the vet for a check-up and was fortunately found to be in good health! I have been safe and sound at a local doggy pension ever since, along with a bunch of other doggos awaiting adoption. I am so ready to meet my forever family in the Pacific Northwest!

TEMPERAMENT - I am a smart, playful, and loving boy with a BIG heart. I am full of joy, curiosity, and affection. I love people more than anything and boy do I ever love cuddles, and attention. I even don't mind being carried (although I'm a bigger boi!). I am social with other dogs and love to play! My rescuer says I'm friendly and affectionate with people from the get-go and am great with kids. I am not shy or scared in most situations; I'm a confident pup that would make a great family dog and adventure buddy.

ENERGY LEVEL - High - It is very likely that I have some Border Collie genes... so that means I am a pretty high energy guy who needs to get my mental and physical exercise needs met daily. After I've been sufficiently tuckered out, I am happy to chill. Being a Border Collie mix, I will thrive in a home where my mental and physical exercise needs are met daily :) If not, don't be surprised if I get up to some mischief to occupy myself, hehe.

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Yup, I have some experience with older children here in Mexico! Check out my video

    • as with ALL dogs, I should always be supervised around children and I need to have my space respected. It's important to remember I am a rescue pup with minimal training, so I may play nip or bounce/jump up on people (including children!)

  • Dogs –  Yes! I enjoy playing with other dogs at the doggy pension (video). I haven't shown any signs of resource guarding, even in such a busy, crowded canine environment.

  • Cats – Unknown.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around cats/squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Pretty good! My rescuer says I don't pull much, am not afraid of cars or loud noises, and haven't shown any reactivity towards other dogs passing by. Check out my leash skills (video1, video 2

  • House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.

  • NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $840.00 ($750 + 5% GST and 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.

The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.

WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates.
