My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Hempstead, TX
DOB: 09/09/2025

Finley, or Fin for short, is a Great Dane–Belgian Malinois mix puppy with a big sense of adventure and an even bigger on-off switch. When she’s awake, she’s all in—head held high, scanning for the next activity you might have planned. Zoomies are a regular occurrence, and she’s happiest when there’s something to do, chase, or investigate. After all that excitement, she crashes hard and turns into a champion napper who fully commits to rest mode.

Fin has a playful, slightly dopey charm that makes her easy to love. She’s convinced she’s part fish and is always on the lookout for water to splash in. Outside, sticks are her top treasure, and inside she’s obsessed with empty water bottles. She’s also learned that sometimes it’s easier to let someone else do the work—if her sister finds a toy, Fin is more than happy to swoop in and claim it for herself. She gets the hiccups at least once a day and seems completely unbothered by them.

Her energy level is definitely on the active side, but a backyard and regular playtime suit her well. Finley is crate trained, rides well in the car, and walks nicely on leash, though she occasionally tries to take herself for a walk. She’s still working on housetraining and is currently down to about two accidents a day, continuing to improve with routine and consistency. Behaviorally, she’s doing great—no major concerns to note.

Finley does well with other dogs of all sizes and truly just wants a friend. She would be fine as an only dog but would really thrive with a canine sibling to play with. She hasn’t been around cats and may be inclined to chase smaller animals, so a cat-free home would likely be best. She’s been around young children and will try to play with kids her own size, always in a playful, non-aggressive way.

With adults and new people, Fin takes a few minutes to warm up, then becomes very excited to make new friends. One funny quirk to know about her: vacuums are only acceptable when they’re turned on. If one is left out and powered off, Finley considers it suspicious and may try to protect you from it—put it away, and all is forgiven.

Finley is healthy, affectionate, and full of personality. Her ideal home is one with plenty of energy, lots of love, and an extremely comfortable sleeping setup—bonus points if you don’t mind holding her while she naps. With the right mix of activity and snuggles, Fin is going to be a fantastic companion.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
