My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ella, an Anatolian mastiff mix!

She is a super smart and sweet girl, capable of picking up new tricks quickly! She is already crate-trained and has a good sense of basic obedience, already knowing sit, down, and shake a paw! She has a lot of energy to burn and a very clever mind, so she will need someone willing to give her the exercise and mental stimulation she needs.

Ella has been previously trained on a gentle leader/halti and displays good leash manners on walks; however, she occasionally struggles with some dog reactivity. She has the tendency to get overexcited and jump up to greet people, so she will need some help learning to stay calm and keep four paws on the floor.

Ella loves playing with other dogs, but her sassy nature doesn't make it easy for her to live with them, so she should be the only dog in the house.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
