My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kateyki – The Big-Hearted Boy Ready for His Second Chance

Kateyki is a 3-year-old male Pit Bull who came to the shelter through a confiscation case, but his past hasn’t dimmed his loving spirit. Now, he’s ready to trade his old life for one filled with kindness, play, and plenty of affection. This energetic, happy guy seems to enjoy the company of other dogs, though the shelter recommends a meet and greet to be sure he’s the right fit for your pack. He’s strong on leash at first, but after some exercise — and with a harness — he walks more comfortably. He’s picky with treats, but when he finds one he likes, he takes it gently.

Kateyki is a total lovebug who leans in for pets, adores booty scratches, and isn’t shy about giving kisses. He doesn’t know “sit” yet, but he’s eager to please and would benefit from a positive training class. After a few minutes of exploring, he’s perfectly happy to stretch out next to you in the shade, dreaming of a life where he can be your loyal lap dog. He’s curious about toys, loves affection, and is truly a lover, not a fighter. Because of his size and energy level, he’s recommended for families with kids 14 and up. Kateyki would thrive in a home that gives him daily walks, mental stimulation, and the guidance to become the amazing companion he’s meant to be.

Come meet Kateyki — your new best friend might just be a gentle kiss away.

More about this shelter

The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department’s mission is to protect and serve the pets and people of Albuquerque by providing Caregiving, Awareness, Resources, Enforcement and Service excellence.

AWD is always in need of foster homes for our pets who need time to grow, recovery from illness or injury or in need of a break from the shelter. Foster homes increase our capacity to provide services to homeless pets in our community. If you would like to donate toys, towels and milk-bones are always in need. Volunteer opportunities are also available at our shelters.
