This loveable 1.5 year-old pittie/Australian Cattle Dog mix has some of the most unique and beautiful coloring you’ll ever see! While he may be young, he’s a total gentleman! Ernie got to go to Bark In The Park, where he got to meet lots of dogs, and people, and was kind to all! (Although we always recommend a meet-and-greet to ensure a great sibling match). He knows sit, takes treats gently, and walks well on leash. He rides great in the car, and wasn’t phased by all the action! You can watch a video of his outing here: https://youtube.com/shorts/1az_dZkRwbI?si=1Snkn0TXfMUZ-YMO
Just like his Sesame Street namesake, Ernie is all about friendship, fun, and just the right amount of silliness. Ernie is incredibly affectionate—he loves to be held and is happiest when he’s snuggled up, soaking in some quiet time with his favorite person. Ernie is now in foster care! His fosters have learned that he is: potty trained, dog friendly and crate trained! In the home, he’s energetic, and is making great progress on his training. He’s got both dog and human (youngest being 9) foster siblings! In foster care, he’s starting to learn that toys can be fun, and what life out of the shelter can be like! If you’re searching for a loyal sidekick who’s equal parts cuddle buddy and playmate, Ernie is ready to find his Bert—and maybe that’s you! You can reach his volunteer at 505.600.1443 if you have any Qs!

More about this shelter
The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department’s mission is to protect and serve the pets and people of Albuquerque by providing Caregiving, Awareness, Resources, Enforcement and Service excellence.
AWD is always in need of foster homes for our pets who need time to grow, recovery from illness or injury or in need of a break from the shelter. Foster homes increase our capacity to provide services to homeless pets in our community. If you would like to donate toys, towels and milk-bones are always in need. Volunteer opportunities are also available at our shelters.
