Sweet Potato’s story almost ended before it began.
Picked up as a stray and brought to a crowded county shelter, this beautiful black pittie mix waited **months** for someone to notice her. The staff and volunteers adored her—she was sweet, affectionate, and eager to please. But she was also a black pit bull, and dogs like her are heartbreakingly easy to overlook. As the days ticked by, Sweet Potato found herself on the euthanasia list.
With just **hours left**, The Misfit Ranch stepped in and saved her. And *wow* are we glad we did.
Today, Sweet Potato is living her best second-chance life:
* 🐾 **About 50 lbs** of love, muscle, and marshmallow softness
* 💕 Dog-friendly with proper intros
* 🛋️ Crate trained, but *definitely* prefers sleeping near her people
* 🌞 **Loves sunbathing** (we call it going *full baked potato*)
* 🐶 Knows basic commands like “sit” and offers her paw like a pro
* 🏃♀️ Loves short sprints at uncrowded dog parks—zoomies and joy guaranteed!
Despite her powerful frame, Sweet Potato has a **gentle, affectionate nature**. She can be a little shy when first meeting someone, but warms up quickly with love and patience. Her leash manners are a work in progress—she walks well most of the time but can pull when excited, so a strong handler is ideal.
She enjoys playtime, but at heart? She’s a **mellow, couch-loving snuggle bug**. After a short run or a quick romp, she’s more than happy to curl up in a patch of sun or next to her person for some well-earned cuddles. Because of her strength and size, we recommend a home without small children, just to be safe.
Sweet Potato waited far too long to be loved. But she never stopped believing.
💬 "All she needed was a chance. Now she just needs a forever.”
