My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MARLOWE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:  Marlowe       Best Guess for Breed:   Dachshund and terrier mix

Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of December 2025        SEX:  Male

Approximate Weight: 15 lbs as of 12/2/25 -he is emaciated at this weight.

Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!

Currently Living at:  Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here!

Special adoption considerations: Marlowe is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.

We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left!

Marlowe is Looking For:  His forever family, with humans who love him and care for him properly. He was emaciated when he came in, had whipworms, and was heartworm positive. Despite that he has been nothing but friendly and open and loving. He's in his prime as a young adult dog and has so much to see and do. Sniffy walks, romps in parks, all the adventures his family can dream up - yes, please! Making pup and people pals along the way would be great too.

But - what he wants most of all is to be safe and loved, to know where he belongs. What do you say? Is that with you?

What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update this once he has spent time in foster care.

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
