My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bella – The Sweet Shepherd in a Small Package!
5-Year-Old • Spayed Female • German Shepherd Mix

Looking for a Shepherd-sized heart in a more manageable frame? Meet Bella—a lovely, medium-sized girl who’s the perfect mix of calm and playful! She came to us with her buddy Pinto, and now she’s ready to start her next chapter with a family who’ll give her the love she’s always deserved.

Bella has all the loyalty and smarts of a Shepherd, but in a smaller, easy-to-handle size. She leashes up politely and enjoys calm strolls or fun bursts of zoomies when she’s feeling playful. She already knows “sit” and takes treats gently, showing off her good manners and sweet temperament. Affectionate and friendly, she loves pets and will nudge you with her nose to remind you she’s there. One of her cutest habits? She loves to bury her treats with her nose—like a true treasure keeper!

Her previous owners could no longer care for her, but they shared that she’s housebroken, crate trained. She’s shown she’s resilient, kind, and eager to please. Bella would do best with kids 10+ due to her playful energy and would enjoy a meet-and-greet with any resident dogs.

Whether it’s a walk around the block or a cozy nap at your feet, Bella’s ready to be your loyal companion every step of the way.

More about this shelter

The City of Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department’s mission is to protect and serve the pets and people of Albuquerque by providing Caregiving, Awareness, Resources, Enforcement and Service excellence.

AWD is always in need of foster homes for our pets who need time to grow, recovery from illness or injury or in need of a break from the shelter. Foster homes increase our capacity to provide services to homeless pets in our community. If you would like to donate toys, towels and milk-bones are always in need. Volunteer opportunities are also available at our shelters.
