Miss Socks is the sweetest little goofball. She had a hard start, but you wouldn’t know it. From wriggling down the hill in the yard on her back to the cute snorts she makes sniffing a particularly interesting patch of grass and the tail wags so big she hits herself on both sides, she is sure to keep her forever family smiling. When the fun is over, she likes nothing better than to snuggle up with her people on the couch.

Socks is very good in the house. She is house broken, crate trained and only chews on what’s appropriate. She knows several useful commands such as “crate”, “sit ”,“collar up”, “potty” “back up”, “wait” and just for fun “spin”. She is showing great improvement on leash manners and not counter surfing. Socks is a people pleaser and very food motivated so training is easy.

She has done very well at doggie daycare, the vet’s office, and loves car rides. While she is an active little girl her exercise requirements can be easily met with a daily walk and some playtime. She has shown nothing but patience and kindness with her foster siblings - both canine and feline. She would love a low-key canine playmate but would do fine as an only fur kid. Even more than the other pups she loves her people and wants to stay close. Socks is looking for a happy forever home where her goofiness and kindness can shine, and she can get all the pets and snuggles she deserves.

Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.

If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.

Sock’s adoption donation is $500 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and Spay/Neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and $100 deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.

Additional adoption info

We have a written application followed by a phone interview. If the applicant is approved past this point then we check 2 personal references as well as their vet reference. If they rent we speak with their landlord as well. If all is well at this point then we do a home check. The final step is a meet and greet where the adopter and the household, including dogs travel to meet the new adoptive dog. If all goes well they can adopt. There is an adoption contract and the adoption fee ranges between $200-400 depending on the fees that we put into the particular dog.

Go meet their pets

We support local "ma & pa" business before the big box chains since many of us come from some communities. We also attended fairs and "meet & greet" events.
