Montana a 3-year Catahoula mix female. She is high energy and would do best with medium to large dogs. She gets excited to see small dogs and can be a bit overwhelming for them. She is curious about cats but has not tried to pull my arm off to chase them. She is learning to walk on the leash and not jump and doing very well meeting others on a trail.

She rides well in the car and will lay down when we are having dinner. She is learning manners, and she is intelligent and wants to make you happy. She does like to challenge you as a trainer and knowing how to be a leader and using positive reinforcement is a must! She can be mouthy when excited and we are working on the alligator inside!

She is good in her crate waiting to go potty when she gets out in the morning. Boredom has caused her to tear up her bed in her crate on a stormy day when she couldn’t go out in her yard but she has not destroy her bed outside.

Experience with this breed as well as time and patience will produce an excellent companion in this sweet girl. She needs a job and people who love her.

Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.

If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.

Montana’s adoption donation is $500 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and spay depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.

3.

Approve Application

- Meet and Greet - Adoption contract signed, adoption donation paid, new pet goes home with you!

Additional adoption info

We have a written application followed by a phone interview. If the applicant is approved past this point then we check 2 personal references as well as their vet reference. If they rent we speak with their landlord as well. If all is well at this point then we do a home check. The final step is a meet and greet where the adopter and the household, including dogs travel to meet the new adoptive dog. If all goes well they can adopt. There is an adoption contract and the adoption fee ranges between $200-400 depending on the fees that we put into the particular dog.

Go meet their pets

We support local "ma & pa" business before the big box chains since many of us come from some communities. We also attended fairs and "meet & greet" events.
