My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by a community member.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Reuben was brought in by a Good Samaritan or maybe the Good Samaritan was brought to the shelter by Reuben, because Reuben took it upon himself to jump in the Good Samaritan's car. Reuben is one smart dog who knows what he wants and how to get it. He knows that he wants a good home with good people whom he can love and protect. His eyes and ears are always on alert. He will take his position of being his people's protector very seriously as being loyal is his natural temperament. If you care for and love Reuben, you will have a best friend who will protect and love you. He will also want playtime so will need outdoor exercise. He will assume his position at your feet or by your side when he comes in - and might feel rejected if you tell him he is too big for cuddling. Want a smart dog by your side through thick and thin? Reuben qualifies and is waiting to jump into your car.

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed neutered. This pet is now ready for their new home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
